Hope vs Reality

April 16,2020.

When the Pakatan Nasional under TSMY took over the government with the promise that professionals would be taken to fill in the Cabinet posts, Malaysians were very happy and relieved. Many Ministers under the Pakatan Harapan regime did not measure up to expectation, as admitted even by Tun Mahatir himself.

Once the new Cabinet got to work (with many familiar faces from UMNO) fighting the V19 pandemic, the progress made was good and everyone was happy again.  TSMY proved to be a capable and effective PM in his cool and quiet way. But some UMNO leaders who are known to be "clean and capable" were , for some reason not included in the Cabinet. Instead one or two questionable characters were brought in( read Kadir Jasin's blog).

Today, we hear many more former UMNO stalwarts will be brought in to fill in positions in the GLiCs, GLCs and Autonomus bodies such as TNB, Bursa Malaysia Bhd.,Petronas, Felda, Felcra etc. Many of the names proposed to head these important agencies are former UMNO stalwarts who are quite controversial. This is quite disturbing and may rock the boat that TSMY is now commanding in a stormy sea. The hope to see capable professionals filling in the leadership posts will be dashed. To see questionable UMNO veterans- those widely acclaimed as capable are ok - take on the leadership, may enhance the feeling that we are getting back the groove of the former regime.
